Soft Tissue Laser Dentistry

Dr. Dukes and our team of experienced professionals are committed to providing our patients with exceptional dental care that combines extensive education and expertise with state-of-the-art technology. Dental lasers are an example of an updated technology used in our Chesapeake dental office that treats a number of oral health issues efficiently and comfortably.

What Is a Soft Tissue Dental Laser?

A dental laser works on the same principle as lasers used for medical procedures. A beam of light is focused directly at the area to be treated to clear away tissue in the mouth. As it precisely targets the area, surrounding tissue won't be affected.

With laser dentistry, you will experience less bleeding, swelling, and postoperative discomfort; in fact, treatment with lasers can often be completed without the need for an anesthetic. In most cases, you will be able to resume your normal activities immediately after leaving our office.

What Problems Do Dental Lasers Treat?

A soft tissue dental laser has a number of uses:

Gum Contouring: Using a dental laser, we can gently reshape uneven gum tissue around the teeth to create a natural, uniform appearance and eliminate a “gummy” smile.

Removal of Canker Sores: Dental lasers can provide immediate relief for severe canker sores that develop on your tongue, the roof of your mouth, or inside your cheek.

Treatment for Periodontal Disease: After we have treated your periodontal disease with a scaling and root planing treatment, we may use the dental laser to selectively remove any diseased or infected tissue lining the pockets of your teeth.

Preparation for Dental Crowns: When placing a dental crown, it is often necessary to use the dental laser to slightly reshape the gum and provide a perfect fit to reduce the risk of developing periodontal disease.

State-of-the-Art Technology and Training

We devote ourselves to staying up-to-date with dental technologies that enhance your oral health and ensure overall wellness. Before we invest in any new technology, we make sure that it will do its job effectively and safely, leaving your teeth healthier than when we started.
